Austins Broken Arm

Austins Broken bone After Surgery

My poor sweet boy! Yesterday we were putting up our fence and this kids wanted to set up our blow up water slide so we did and now I wish we hadn't! Austin, only a few slides into it slid down but took a good bounce off the side of the slide. He landed on his back but his arm was still back there and his Humerous snaped in half, as you could see in the x-ray. Whats weird is he didn't scream or cry when it actually happend. Matt was standing probably five feet away. When austin stood up his whole arm went limp and it looked discusting!! when Matt yelled out to me, Austin broke his arm! thats when austin kinda feaked out and it started hurting. I think he was more scared than hurting at first. So we jumped into the car and took him to emergency.
When we got there, the lady that was taking our information was asking questions and then she asked if he was allergic to anything and austin said "I'm allergic to pain!" everybody in the room started laughing! But the poor little guy was still crying. He kept saying "I don't want to have surgery". Well I told him he wouldn't have to. After they took his x-rays the doctor came in and said that he would have to have surgery and have pins put in his arm. I hate the word SURGERY!! 3 surgerys in our family within 2 months time! Does that really happen! Well it did to us. Me first with my knee, Austin today, and then Matt on thursday has his Hernia Surgery.
Well, when he heard the word surgery he freaked out! We kept trying to calm him down and he was scared that if he went into surgery they were going to cut his arm off. I felt so bad for him. HE was in so much pain and I couldn't do anything but cry for him. It seems like I have been seing my kids in pain alot here lately and I can't do anything about it!. I feel completely helpless. I know there are moms out there who know what I'm talking about.
Sam came to the hospital right before they were going to wheel him into surgery, to help Matt give austin a blessing. It helped me also! I was finally somewhat calm. Austin was still freaking out at this point and Thank You Dr. Bryce! He talked to austin and told him that they were not going to do surgery just a "Procedure". austin was ok with that and he finally stoped crying. The nurse told us, that while they were cleaning him up and preping him for his "Procedure" that austin was telling them about his teacher and how he was in kindergarten, and that his sister Aubrey was worried about him. They thought he was so cute! So the surgery went good and now he has some cool pictures of his arm for Show and Tell.
It took him a while to wake up after it was done. He just wanted to go home. From the time we got there thats all he kept saying is "I want to go home! lets just watch a movie!" It broke my heart! But when we got home he was happy and he has been such a trooper! He is one tuff kido. He says thank you to me alot and when I ask him if it hurts he says"A little bit, but I'm ok, thank you mom I love you" He is such a sweet little boy and such a good example to me!
We'll we see Dr. Bryce in a week and he'll get a real cast on. He has a partial soft cast right now so it will allow swelling and then he will have a real cast for 4 weeks. We just need to be carefull because of the pins in his arms. they can't be moved, so that means probably no soccer for the 4 weeks wich is going to be so sad for austin! He was doing so good to and he LOVES Soccer. But what can you do! Hopefully it heals fast! And Hopefully nothing else tramatic happens to our family because I don't think I can handle anything else! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger right? And after the trial comes the blessings. So I will be anxiously awating those blessing wich should be good!!=)

Yikes! Those pictures made me weak. Poor little boy. We prayed for him last night and all Makenna kept talking about was how she was sad that Austin hurt his arm. I hope he isn't in too much pain. I'm really sorry YOU had to go through that too. Sometimes you wonder if it's actually worse for the mother than the child. In this case, I'm sure it wasn't but I bet it was pretty close.
Tell Austin we love him and we hope he feels better.

Ouch! That is a crazy amount of things to go wrong. A woman in my ward had a similar situation. Her son broke his arm on vacation. When they went to get xrays they found out he has a tumor in his brain! And then her husband totally broke his foot. And then got an infection or had an allergic reaction to the medicine and had to be rushed back to the ER.

Crazy how some families get hit all at once.

Hope he gets better soon and that you don't have to have any more Procedures for a long time!!

OH SARAH! I just sat here and cried for you! It just breaks my heart to think of something like that happening to Grant...Especially coming from my hubby that just had two little fractures to pins/surgery, etc. You're definitely in my prayers for the next few weeks- Especially with Matt's surgery on top of this! Michael had a double hernia surgery just after his mission and from what he tells me it is NO walk in the park, so I'm going to pray you get all the angels that are free to help you guys out! If anybody can do it, it's you!

That's so sad, poor Austin. That made me laugh though, when he said "I'm allergic to pain"!

So sad! I'm dreading the first broken arm. It's inevitable(sp) with kids though. Even though I never did...I'm raising stinking monkeys so I know it's going to happen. But look at you, looking on the bright side knowing that blessings will come. I never think like that. Hope Austin gets better soon!!!
